TRIVIA
The director, William Mager, makes several cameos in the film - as an autograph hunter, a script supervisor, and as Hands Solo himself. His hands were also used for many of the close up shots and illustrations you see in the film. However, the owner of the young lady's hand on the book cover must remain anonymous for now.
At the last minute, the UK Film Council requested the removal of a poster from the film for fear of offending someone on the board. In our last minute panic to create a replacement, graphic designer James Norris came up with the poster on the left. What we DIDN'T know was that Nicola Stapleton had already starred in a film of the same name, directed by Edgar Wright...
There is another connection with Edgar Wright. Cast member Ben Green was an extra in Hot Fuzz. If you watch the trailer, you can spot him on around 32secs... (CLUE: he's the tall one at the back. Under the letter K)
The original cut of Hands Solo was 25 minutes long. In cutting it down to 14 minutes, many things were lost - including an entire subplot about Hands' parents, played by deaf acting royalty Ilan Dwek and Jean St Clair. We hope to resurrect them in the near future.
There is a photograph somewhere of William wearing a Princess Leia wig. It's pretty horrific. |
